Move over hot dogs, Taco Bell is moving in on America’s Favorite Past Time by once again offering their “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” promotion.

If a player from either team in game 1 or 2 of the World Series steals a base, every person in the U.S. 50 states and D.C. will be entitled to one free Doritos Locos taco on November 1, 2017 from 2-6pm. Only the first stolen base will count, but you’re still eligible for a free taco even if it’s not your team that steals the base.

Even better, there’s a second opportunity to score free tacos in this year’s Fall Classic. The first player from either team to steal a base in Continue reading Taco Bell’s “Steal A Base, Steal A Taco” Returns For 2017

National Taco Day – October 4, 2017

This is What We Have Been Training For!

Jimboy's Tacos

Many claimed that last year when October 4th, National Taco Day, fell on a Tuesday, we were getting the best of both worlds because we could double up on tacos. I don’t know about you, but I eat tacos until I’m full for either occasion, so I felt a little ripped off. Having the excuse to eat tacos twice in one week sounds like a much better deal to me, and two days in a row? Oh, Hell yeah!

Of course, tacos are good, but taco deals are even better. So, who’s offering taco deals for National Taco Day? We got you covered: Continue reading National Taco Day – October 4, 2017

Cantina Life in A Crazy Triangle Square

Three Tacos At La Vida Cantina Costa Mesa

We first spotted La Vida Cantina on one of our frequent trips to the Starlight Cinemas at Triangle Square in Costa Mesa. We head to Starlight frequently for movies on the weekends because they are never crowded and there’s usually a great deal on Groupon so we can see the latest movies for bargain prices.

In addition, there’s always a good vibe at the restaurants in the Triangle, with lots of people getting together after work, or for weekend fun, enjoying the open fire pits on many of the outdoor Continue reading La Vida Cantina, Costa Mesa – First Review: Not Too Loca, Not Too Square

It’s Not Just What’s On the Inside that Counts

Flour or corn tortillas? This is the choice facing most taco lovers as they place their orders at the counter or with their waiter. For me it’s pretty simple, I like carnitas and al pastor on a corn tortilla, but prefer flour tortillas for chicken or asada. Anything else, and it’s a simple coin flip to decide. Well, put the change back in your pocket, because a coin toss isn’t going to cut it at Cecilia’s Tortilla Grill. At Cecilia’s they make all their tortillas, flour and corn, fresh on the premises. But they go a step further. In addition to traditional tortillas, you also have three Continue reading Cecilia’s Tortilla Grill – First Review: Thinking Outside the Taco

News: Free Tacos at Taco Bell!

Everybody loves free stuff. But you know what’s better than free stuff? Free tacos! And Taco Bell is giving away free tacos!

Apparently, there was some basketball game on this week, or something, and Taco Bell is letting everyone steal a taco because the Golden State Warriors stole a road win in game three of the NBA finals. Whatever. Let’s get back to what’s really important: Free tacos!

From 2-6pm PST today, all you have to do is walk into a participating Taco Bell and ask for a free Doritos Loco taco. It’s definitely easier than winning an NBA finals game on the road.

Congrats Warriors, and thanks for scoring us the free tacos!

There is No Ahhs and The Emerald Lounge is… Sapphire?

You’re out following the Yellow Brick Road, and decide to stop for the night. You pull your farmhouse off the to the side of the tornado you’ve been riding, find a nice independent hotel (a former Holiday Inn) in sleepy little Mission Viejo, make sure you didn’t accidentally park on any wicked witches, and decide it’s a good place to crash for the night. Not wanting to go back out, you decide to hit the Taco Tuesday right here in the hotel at the Emerald Lounge. Sorry, Toto. The tacos are going to taste like you’re still in Kansas, and the lounge isn’t Emerald.

To be fair, a moderately priced hotel lounge is not the place you’d expect to find great food, even by cheap Taco Tuesday standards. Hotel lounges in this price range are usually more about Continue reading Emerald Lounge (Laguna Hills) – First Review: Seeking the Wizard of Ahhs at the Emerald Lounge

Waterside Dining Without Soaking Your Wallet

With a name like Mission Viejo, you’d think good tasting Mexican food in a full service restaurant would be easy to find. But it seems suburbanites in the sleepy little bedroom community of south Orange County, like their dining establishments like they like their houses: expensive, in a limited number of floorplans, and only available in earth tones. So, it’s no surprise, uniform and boring chain restaurants dominate the foodscape where cookie cutter is the rule of the day. There are exceptions to every rule, though, and today’s Continue reading Hacienda on the Lake – First Review: Breaking the Chains of Suburban Dining

When I first heard the local Shell Station in Aliso Viejo was going to be selling tacos, I scoffed. How could a gas station offer anything better than hotdogs with questionable expiration dates endlessly rotating for days on end on steel rollers under a heat lamp? The answer is simple: It wasn’t the gas station that was serving them. Despite numerous trips to Lake Tahoe, I had never heard of Jimboy’s Tacos so had no idea they were Continue reading Jimboy’s Tacos (Aliso Viejo) – First Review: Can a Gas Station Taco Give You More Than Gas?
